Liverpool winger Jordan Ibe has been left out of the England squad for the European Under-21 Championship.
Ibe, 19, is eligible for Nigeria through his farther, but he has expressed an interest in playing for both the England U-21s and the senior squad.
Coach of the England U-21s Gareth Southgate released a 27-man party at a press conference on Wednesday and also overlooked Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
Southgate preferred Benik Afobe, Patrick Bamford, Saido Berahino, Harry Kane, Danny Ings and Cauley Woodrow in attack to Ibe.
Ibe had told the Liverpool Echo only on Tuesday: “I want to get into the England U-21s team and then eventually into the senior squad and win some cups.”
The Young Lions qualified for the championship with an exemplary record dropping only two points and conceding just two goals – in their qualifying group before beating Croatia 4-2 on aggregate in a play-off last October
