England Winger Set For Lengthy Absence

Exeter Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter has confirmed England winger Jack Nowell is set to be sidelined for eight weeks. The 25-year-old had to withdraw from England’s preparations ahead of last week’s autumn international against Australia after sustaining a hamstring injury in training.

Nowell, who did feature against South Africa, New Zealand and Japan, returned to his club for further assessment this week.

Baxter has now confirmed the full extent of the injury and the winger could miss around eight weeks of action. “Jack’s got a pretty significant hamstring tear,” Baxter told Exeter’s official website.

“It’s one of those injuries which is likely to be around the eight-week mark, give or take a week depending on how his rehab goes. Ironically, he should be back in time to fight for a place in the Six Nations!”

Chiefs will need to cope without Nowell during a key run of fixtures over the next few weeks in the Gallagher Premiership, while he will also miss the double-header against Gloucester in the Heineken Champions Cup.
