Enyeama Plays First Game Since April For Lille Juniors, Celebrates

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, made a return to action for the first time in over seven months on Saturday for Lille’s U-18s in their 3-1 win over Croix in the French fourth tier, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Enyeama sustained a knee injury while playing for Lille in April, and it took close to eight months for him to fight his way back to full fitness after undergoing surgery.

He posted a picture of himself after the game in his team’s dressing room with a message of gratitude beneath it on his Twitter handle.

“God has been so faithful. 7 months and some weeks,God has taken me up. I had my 1st game.I want to thank everyone that worked for this day to happen.God bless you all,” the 35-year-old Nigeria’s most capped international wrote.

Maxime Wackers and Alexis Flips were on target to secure a third win of the season for Lille’s U-18s on Saturday night.

Lille’s U-18 are currently tenth in the table with 14 points from 13 games.

Enyeama, who retired from international football in 2015 after falling out with then Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh, has made 143 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille, keeping 61 clean sheets and conceding 132 goals in four seasons.

Enyeama’s return to action comes amid calls for his return to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup squad in Russia next summer.

Carl Ikeme, the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper who competently replaced Enyeama as first choice, was diagnosed with leukaemia in August and the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Francis Uzoho have not been totally convincing.

  • Omo what is wrong with the present manager of his club? That Belsa guy no get focus, benching a senior player like him(Enyeama)

  • Lolz. He even conceded against under 18. Abeg leave Mr Enyeama alone. He has retired from our national team.

  • Let us get it wright pls, he has not been relegated to junior team, it is usual when an injured player is rec operating from an injury d normal procedure is to go through rehabilitation which involved playing from d junior team to get ur full fitness before injecting u to d main team back, tnk’s.

  • This is good, he will get first team soonest

  • Congrats bro….Gods healing continue to rest upon u

  • The said, “former”. He was the captain before Oliseh stripped him of the band and handed it to Musa.
When Enyeama left and Oliseh ” bolted”, the captain band was handed to Mikel

Thank God you are back please we need you
    in our national team

  • This is a good start for him. It least we have confirmed that he is still a Lille player. My take on this confirmation is this: does this mean that the present goalkeeper of Lille senior team is better than Enyeama? If so is this goalkeeper a new one or has been there when Enyeama was smarting in goal and declared best goalkeeper in France? If so does it mean that he suddenly loss form? If he has loss firm and skill suddenly is it becos he wasn’t training to keep his form? Is it the Nigerian mentality becos the oyibos usually come back better than before when they are injured or suspended or are unemployed? If Enyeama is not good enough for Lille football club, will he be good for national team? Those anti “Enyeama for Eagles” have a point after all? Gernot Rohr has to decide!! and be fast about it too.

  • Your argument is off point. All questions asked are that of an ignorant bystander.

  • U no dey open ur eye read well? Bad belle

  • Na under 18? Pls how old is enyeama.. Abi na enyeama picking b dat

  • Thank God he is a more better player then ezewa and co

  • And Dumbsters are calling for his recall into the National Team!

All over the world when player returns from a long injury they play first in the reserves to test their fitnes level.

  • Nigerian I miss goal keeper

  • Pls Let get him (Enyeama) back. We need him now than ever. Remember what led to his resignation. Pls Nigerians need him for world cup pls

  • For those who are insulting this guy for playing for U-18, If you are the coach of Lille, will you just throw I a goalkeeper who has been I hired and never tasted action for 8 months into the first team action? It is part of the process of rehabilitation or recuperation. What he went through was a major setback and whether Nigeria calls him back or not he will come out stronger at the end of the day. Even if some people here do not want him back in SE, you do not need to be malicious or trivialize another person’s pain. That is unfair. But the fact that he was in goal for the junior team clearly showed that he is still in the process and very likely, he is still on his way back to the main team.

  • #will you throw in a goalkeeper who has been injured

  • Am kind of worried about our Goal keepers the trends as to how unfortunate incident befall them especially b4 world cup.
Ike Shoromu was on fire b4 1998 world cup, he broke his hand n Rufai went but disgraced by the Danes.
Dosu was highly rated in CAF mundia, he had a headache on collision while driving along Ikorodu road with herd of cows in Lagos n lost his spine, Shoromu went to world the cup, he had a day to forget!
Carl Ikeme was household name during qualifier, a highly rated n vastly talented keeper but diagnosed with Leukemia!
Akpeyi a.k.a Apere, Chigozie even now a retired n out of formed Ayeama are being planned to litter already cleansed product.

Nigerians should be greatful to Enyeama but our focus now should be on the goalkeepers that qualifiers Nigeria for the World Cup in Russia! All our goalkeepers are doing alright, including Alampasu, we must use them for the Russian world cup! These goalkeepers Namely,Akpayi,Ezenwa and Alampasu! These three goalkeepers are gaining experiences every day, just because they’re all active players in their various football clubs,so lets give them the opportunity to represents Nigeria in the World Cup,period!
