By Adeboye Amosu: Enyimba youngster Ikouwen Udoh says it will be a dream come true for him to make the Home Eagles’ final 23-man squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Udoh was handed a late invitation to the team last week after impressing for the Peoples Elephant in the Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament in Kano where he featured in two of his club’s four games.
The left-back only made his league debut for Enyimba in March this year after he was promoted from the feeder team at the start of the season.
Overall he made 10 appearances for the Aba club in the NPFL last term.
Chima Akas’ withdrawal from the squad to seek a career abroad has further increased Udoh’s chances of making the final cut and the 20-year-old cannot wait to be on the flight with his teammates to Morocco.
“I’m working very hard in training to convince the coaches that I’m good enough to make the team to Morocco and I hope to get their nod at the end of the day,” Udoh told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The invitation came as a surprise to me even though I have always wanted to play for my country but I didn’t expect that it would come this early.
“It will be a dream come true for me if I finally make the squad. It will cap a remarkable year for me after I was also promoted to the Enyimba first team from the feeders.”
Coach Salisu Yusuf is expected to name his 23-man squad later this week ahead of the team’s departure for a training tour in Rabat, Morocco on January 2nd.
CHAN will start in Morocco on January 13 and end on February 4.
