Europa: Adegbenro Brace Knocks Out Ajax, Hassan Scores; Everton, Milan Advance

Nigerian striker Samuel Adegbenro came off the substitutes’ bench to score a brace for Norwegian side Rosenborg as they dumped out last season’s finalists Ajax Amsterdam from the UEFA Europa League following a 3-2 second leg win in their play-off tie, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Adegbenro came on in the 68th minute for Milan Jevtovic and made scores 2-2 in the 80th minute after goals from Ajax’s Amin Younes and Lasse Schoene had cancelled out Nicklas Bendtner’s 26th minute opener.

The Nigerian sealed the win for his side in the 89th minute.

In Denmark, Nigerian winger Riliwan Hassan scored his second goal for FC Midtjylland who crashed out of the UEFA Europa League on the away goals rule after their 1-1 draw (3-3 on aggregate) at home to Apollon Limassol from Greece.

Hassan’s 10th minute strike – his second of the competition- was cancelled out by Andre Schembri in the 50th minute.
Hassan was replaced in the 63rd minute by Bozhidar Kraev.

Hassan’s compatriot Paul Onuachu was not listed for the game.

In Hungary, Ezekiel Henty played for 45 minutes in his fourth Europa League game for Videoton FC who lost 4-0 at home to Partizan Belgrade afte the first leg ended goalless.

Former Nigeria U-20s striker Alhaji Gero was not listed for Oestersunds FK who qualified on the away goals rule with a 2-0 home win over PAOK Thessaloniki FC in Greece. Gero has made 19 appearances in all competitions this term.

In other fixtures, Dynamo Kyiv advanced to the group stages of the competition with a 3-1 win over Maritimo, Fenerbahce failed to qualify for the group stages after losing 2-1 (4-1 on aggregate) on the night to Macedonia’s FK Vardar Skopje.

Ludogorets Razgrad beat Suduva 2-0 on aggregate while Everton record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the leveller for the Toffees against Croatian side Hajduk Split to send the English Premier League side into the group stages of the competition with a 1-1 draw and an aggregate score of 3-1.
