Europa League: Ik Uche In, Ajagun Out!

Super Eagles forward Ikechukwu Uche helped Villarreal advance to the next round of the Europa League competition with a 2-0 win over Apollon Limassol.

The 30 year old Nigerian international replaced Luciano Dario Vietto on the hour mark and was yellow carded in the 69th minute of the encounter.

Uche however failed to add to his one goal tally in the competition. The former Getafe star has scored four goals in 12 La Liga games for Villarreal so far this term.

In Greece, Abdul Ajagun crashed out of the competition following Panathinaikos’ 1-1 draw at the Apóstolos Nikolaidis stadium. Ajagun,who featured in all six group games in the Europa League scoring once was replaced by Danijel Pranji in the 60th minute during last night’s game.

In Croatia,Efe Ambrose made his fourth start of the Europa League for Celtic who lost 4-3 to Dinamo Zagreb. Celtic are already through to the next round alongside Salzburg, the group winners.

In Azerbaijan, Super Eagles midfielder, Joel Obi played for 90 minutes for Inter who forced Qarabag to a goalless draw. It was Obi’s fifth appearance in the competition for Inter who are through to the round of 32. He was replaced by Enrico Baldini in stoppage time.
