Everton boss Marco Silva believes summer signing Bernard is ready for his first start after impressing against West Ham. The 26-year-old joined from Shakhtar Donetsk over the summer on a four-year deal but his game time has been restricted due to a lack of match fitness.
Silva called Bernard off the bench just before half-time in last Sunday’s loss to West Ham and he played a role in the build-up to Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal.
The Portuguese was delighted with Bernard’s performance and has hinted he could get his full debut when Everton travel to Arsenal on Sunday.
Silva said: “Bernard can help with everything we need. He is ready to give 100 per cent, even if he is not yet in his best physical condition, which is normal because he did not play since last March.
“In his first 50 minutes he did well, he had a good impact in a difficult moment in the match. He is a different profile from the other wingers in our squad. A quality player and he will help us. If I need 90 (minutes), he is ready for what I need.”
