Former Genk manager Alex McLeish is confident that Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi can fill the void left by N’Golo Kante at Leicester City if he joins the reigning champions in January, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kante joined Chelsea in the summer from Leicester and the Foxes moved to replace him, adding Nampalys Mendy but the Frenchman has found life difficult at the King Power Stadium.
There have been reports that Super Eagles midfielder Ndidi will join Leicester in January for £15 million.
McLeish who bought Ndidi when he was manager at Genk says the 19-year-old can eventually be the solution to the defensive woes of Leicester.
Ndidi has made 22 appearances and scored two goals in all competitiins this season, while last season he played 38 league games and scored four goals.
“To see the progress Ndidi has made since is brilliant and he has had a great year at Genk.”
“He is Kante-like. He will cover the ground like Kante does,” McLeish was quoted on the Mirror.
“In terms of technique, you wouldn’t say he is the best passer in the world but he keeps it simple.
“I saw him on tape and at the next recruitment meeting we pushed the button. I immediately saw the speed of the boy.
“We had no money to spend on any bigger names to help the first team because those were the parameters under which I took the job. But I said let’s get this guy’, I recommended we signed him for €100,000.
“I’ve taken a big interest in the kid since and they want a fortune for him now.”
