By Adeboye Amosu: Former Home-based Super Eagles defender Austine Obaroakpo is currently undergoing trials with South Africa Premier League club Cape Town City, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.
The Abia Warriors captain arrived South Africa early this week and has been training with the first team with the aim of securing a permanent deal at the club.
With few days left before the end of the winter transfer window, the centre-back will hope to convince Cape Town City head coach and former South Africa striker, Benni McCarthy, that he is good enough to play for the club.
Obaroakpo signing by Cape Town City FC will increase the number of Nigerians at the club to two. Former Super Eagles forward, Obinna Nsofor, already a key member of the team.
He was part of Nigeria’s team that took part at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
Chippa United duo,Daniel Akpeyi and James Okwuosa are the other notable Nigerian stars playing in the South Africa Premier League.
Cape Town City currently sit in second position in the PSL table, four points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
