Former home-based Super Eagles midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew capped a brilliant season by helping his club Lillestrom win the Norwegian FA Cup title following a hard fought 3-2 win against Sarpsborg on Sunday.
The former Wikki Tourists player who appeared in all 30 league games for Lillestrom in the just concluded league season, bagging three goals, played the entire duration of the cup final.
It was his first trophy with the modest side who barely escaped the drop from the top league and one which will see them compete in the Europa League next season.
The 20-year-old joined Lillestrom last year from Nigeria Professional Football League club Kano Pillars.
He was part of Nigeria’s home-based side that featured at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda in 2016.
Sarpsborg who last week signed Matthew’s former international teammate Usman Mohammed on a three-year deal finished in third position in the league.
Three other Nigerians Marco Tagbajumi, Chinedu Ezeh and Moses Ebiye were also on the substitute bench for Lillestrom in the game.
Tagbajumi came in as late replacement for Earling Knudtzon, while Ebiye and Ezeh were on the bench for the entire game.
