Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote has been confirmed dead at the age of 30.
Newcastle United, their manager Rafa Benitez and former teammates of the midfielder confirmed his death and sent condolence messages on Monday.
Tiote's agent Emanuele Palladino anoounced on Monday: "It is with deep sadness that I confirm that my client Cheick Tiote passed away today."
The former Newcastle midfielder, who only moved to Chinese second division outfit Beijing Enterprises four months ago, was reportedly rushed to hospital on Monday after collapsing during a training session in China.
M"ay Allah give grant you jannah (paradise) brother Tiote," Demba Ba, Ivory Coast and Newcastle teammate of the late player, wrote on Twitter.
Another former colleague, goalkeeper Stephen Harper, wrote: "Gutted to hear the awful news about my former teammate Cheik Tiote today. Thoughts with his friends and family."
Jonas Gutierrez posted a photo of Tiote on Instagram and wrote: "Sad news. Always going to be remember our time together at #nufc RIP my friend."
Tiote made 52 international appearances for Ivory Coast and scored once. He also made 156 appearances for Newcastle during his six-and-a-half-year stay at St James' Park, after signing from Dutch club FC Twente for £3.5million in 2010.
