Former Nigeria international Wilfred Agbonavbare has died after losing his long battle with cancer, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
According to the official website of his former Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, rayovallecano.es, it was reported that he passed away this morning, Tuesday, January 27.
“El Rayo Vallecano informs that our ex-player Wilfred Agbonavbare has died early this morning at the Prince of Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henares.
The Club shall, as soon as possible, and with permission from the family place where you can give him a last farewell.”
Agbovnabre was a member of the Flying Eagles squad that qualified for the 1983 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Mexico. He was also in the silver-medal winning team at the 1984 AFCON where the then Green Eagles lost 3-1 to Cameroon in the final.
He was also a member of the 1994 side that won the AFCON in Tunisia and represented Nigeria at the USA 1994 World Cup.
