Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the five-game ban he has been given in Spain, former referee Dermot Gallagher has claimed.
The Portugal captain was handed the ban on Monday after he pushed the referee during the 3-1 Spanish Super Cup first leg win over Barcelona at Camp Nou.
Ronaldo had not taken kindly to being sent off for diving after he had already been given a yellow card for taking his shirt off to celebrate his goal, and he pushed the referee in a fit of petulance.
Former Premier League referee Gallagher was quoted on the BBC on Monday night: “The message they’ve got to send out is it’s unacceptable to push a match official.
“If I’m walking down the high street in my town I can’t go pushing a policeman.
“There is nothing to excuse what Ronaldo did. We cannot accept this at any cost.”
Ronaldo will miss the return leg of the Super Cup on Wednesday as well as LaLiga matches against Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.
He has 10 days to appeal the ban.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
