Ex-Siasia Assistant Odigie Targets U-23s Job, Backs CHAN Eagles

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Former assistant to coach Samson Siasia at the Nigeria U-23s, Monday Odigie, believes he has what it takes to be in charge of the new national U-23 Eagles as the Nigeria Football Federation begin the process of hiring a coach for the team, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former Bayelsa United handler is one of the 56 coaches shortlisted by the Nigeria Football Federation for interviews on August 22 in Abuja.
Odigie said having worked in the Nigerian professional players for many years, he believes working with players in that category will not be a problem for a person with his rich experience.
“Well, you know the role I have played in the national team mostly the U-23 team when I assisted Siasia, I think I have been able to learn a lot in that category and also the chemistry that can make that team strong technically,” Odigie told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Naturally, the players in the U-23 team are from the league which I am already familiar with and I believe I can still give my best there, but the NFF have the final say on where they want any coach to work.”
Odigie assisted Siasia at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland where Nigeria won the silver medal.
Meanwhile, Odigie has charged Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles to put their first leg defeat in the qualifier behind them and focus on how to beat the Benin Republic with a wide goal margin in the return leg match scheduled for Kano on Saturday.

The home-based Eagles, coached by Salish Yusuf, suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Cotonou last weekend.
