Super Eagles defensive midfielder Ogenyi Onazi took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to reveal his official contract extension with Serie A side, Lazio.
The Eagles star posted a picture of him signing on the dotted lines with an official of the Rome-based Italian club watching keenly.
“I say a big thank you to God, my family, my team and my fans as I sign an extension to my contract. #ForzaLazio!!! ,” Onazi tweeted on Monday afternoon.
Onazi, one of the Nigerian players who shone at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, received offers from English Premier League teams; Everton and Southampton in the aftermath of Nigeria’s campaign at the World Cup.
Nigeria were beaten 2-0 by France in the Round of 16 stage of the Mundial but the team’s fortune in that game seemed to take a dip after Onazi was injured by France midfielder, Blaise Matuidi.
The new Onazi deal had been agreed in principle as the club had been busy tying down key players.
The 21-cap Nigerian international will now be with the Biancoceleste until the summer of 2018.
