Flying Eagles forward, Chidera Ezeh, says the team is fired up to win a first FIFA U-20 title in New Zealand.
The Flying Eagles will begin their campaign against five-time champions Brazil on Monday.
The Black Satellites of Ghana are the only team from Africa to have won the title with the Flying Eagles coming close twice in 1989 and 2005 with a second place finish.
But Ezeh, a member of Nigeria's U-17 all-conquering squad in United Arab Emirates two years ago, is confident they can also claim the title.
''We are here in New Zealand to win the competition,'' he told completesportsnigeria.com.
''Ghana are the only team from Africa to have won the title and we are keen to emulate them.
''It was great winning the U-17 title two years ago in the UAE and we are looking forward to making name for ourselves again.
''Everyone in the team is looking forward to the start of the competition, hopefully we will start on a good note against Brazil on Monday."
