By Adeboye Amosu: Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was one of the regular players rested as he was on the bench for the entire 90 minutes as Leicester City were held to a 0-0 draw by League One club Fleetwood in their Emirates FA Cup third round tie at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday.
Ndidi’s international teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho, was introduced 10 minutes from time for Algeria striker Islam Slimani, while the other Nigerian at the club Ahmed Musa, who has been linked with a loan move to Turkish club Bursaspor, was not dressed for the game.
Both teams will head to the King Power Stadium for a replay following the stalemate to decide who will play in the fourth round.
A second-string Leicester City side took control of the game in the opening stages and came close to scoring the opening goal in the fourth minute but Slimani failed to direct his header into the net.
The hosts were forced into a change in the 15th minute with the injured Nathan Pond coming off for Ashley Eastham.
Seven minutes later, Andy King almost bundled the ball home for Leicester City, but the ball hit the crossbar.
It was the turn of Demarai Gray to try his luck for the Foxes on the half hour mark. The winger found his way into the Fleetwood box before firing a shot into the side netting.
The hosts sat back and had few chances from corner kicks in the game.
Leicester City manager Claude Puel introduced the duo of Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki for Harvey Barnes and Andrien Silva in the 58th minute.
Slimani wasted another opportunity for the visitors in the 67th minute as he diverted Gray’s volley into the side-netting.
The Algerian was replaced by Iheanacho 10 minutes from time.
Leicester fought hard to get the decisive winning goal late in the game but the home team stood firm to earn a replay.
