Southampton manager Claude Puel has revealed that he will be without eight key players for Saturday's FA Cup clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.
Puel who guided the Saints to their first ever EFL league Cup final since 1979 when they defeated Liverpool 2-0 on aggregate on Wednesday night at Anfield, will do without the services of Charlie Austin, Matt Targett, Jason McCarthy, Jérémy Pied, and other injury concerns: Virgil van Dijk, Jake Hesketh.
Other players expected to miss the encounter are Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse.
But Puel insists the Sainst must stay focused ahead of the game.
"It's important to keep our focus about the next game. We have no time to take pleasure from it," he said during his pre-match conference on Friday.
“We have a lot of injuries. Still we are without Austin, Targett, McCarthy, Pied, and other injuries with van Dijk, Hesketh.
“Also with Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse not available it is almost a full team.
“We have possibilities with other players and the rotation since the beginning of the season allows to continue the work and to keep good results.”
The Frenchman, Puel who will come up against his former boss Arsene Wenger had nothing but admiration for his compatriot.
He said: "I have a lot of respect for my former trainer. It's a pleasure to see him again."
Regarding transfers, Puel said: "We will see in the next few days if some players can join this squad."
