FA Cup: Rashford, Zlatan Fire United Overcome Resilient Blackburn

Holders Manchester United came from a goal down to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday.

Danny Graham gave Blackburn Rovers the lead but goals from Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic secured the hard-fought win for United.

The last time United lost to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in any competition was in February 2006 when they were beaten 4-3.

Graham put Blackburn Rovers in front in the 17th minute, converting inside United’s 18 yard.

In the 24th minute United almost drew level through Ander Herrera but his powerful strike was saved by Jason Steele in goal for Blackburn.

United eventually equalised on 29 minutes through Rashford who rounded Steele before slotting the ball into the net following a brilliant pass from deep from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Craig Conway went close to restoring Blackburn’s lead on 37 minutes but his left foot shot went narrowly over the bar.

In the second half United were the stronger side and went close on several occasions through substitute Ibrahimovic and Herrera.

United deservedly went 2-1 up on 75 minutes through Ibrahimovic who brilliantly brought down Paul Pogba’s long ball before slotting past Steele.

In the 86th minute, substitute Anthony Stokes thought he had equalised for Blackburn but his effort was ruled for offside after Sergio Romero had made a triple save.
