–Edwin Okon says Liverpool Ladies star has quality to win
Super Falcons Coach Edwin Okon says he will be glad if Liverpool Ladies Asisat Oshoala can win the BBC Women’s Player of the Year Award after being nominated for the maiden edition.
Oshoala who moved to Liverpool Ladies after helping Nigeria to win the African Women’s Championship has been very impressive since she arrived in England.
Speaking on the award, Okon says if the Nigerian could get enough support to win the award; it will be a big boost to the team ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
“For her to have been nominated I think it is a big achievement for her and Nigeria as a nation. We are all impressed and confident that she has what it takes to emerge winner but we will still continue to pray for her to get enough votes that will give her the award, ” he says.
“We are preparing for the FIFA World Cup and everybody is like waiting for what Nigeria is going to offer particularly some of our players that well known like Asisat and others. And if she can win the award, it will also be a boost to the team.
Meanwhile, Okon has assured that the team will be at their best in Canada to compete for the trophy.
“We are going to be at our best in Canada and that is why we are doing our best now to prepare very well for the World Cup.
