Falcons Want Houses From President Jonathan

Super Falcons duo, Desire Oparanozie and Stella Mbachu have told Supersport.com they will preference for houses as key reward for winning the 9th African Women Championship (AWC) in Namibia.

The African champions are expected to be received by Nigeria’s president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja today where varying gifts are most likely to be showered on the team for doing the nation proud at the biennial football showpiece.

Oparanozie said though they do not want to pre-empt or dictate to the president on the choice of reward, they will want something enduring like houses or flats in choice areas of Abuja.

“We’ll appreciate the president’s kind-heartedness more if he considers us for house or flat ownership as part of his rewards or packages for our victory at the just concluded AWC in Namibia.

“Any other thing like cash, national honours, among other things will be greatly appreciated but a house reward in the nation’s capital will be key and will truly make us national heroines.

“I’m sure our choice won’t be seen as being on the high side as the president has graciously rewarded our men’s counterparts with even more for a feat almost same as ours,” said France-based striker, Oparanozie, who emerged topscorer at the AWC tosupersport.com.

Mbachu said that scholarships will not attune for their preeminent performance at the AWC in Namibia preferring instead something tangible like houses or flats.

“We’ll prefer something reasonable not scholarships as 85% of the players are already graduates.

“We want houses or flats as rewards for winning the African Women Championship for a record seventh times.

“I don’t think our humble request will amount to asking for too much though we won’t mind any way the nation wants to appreciate us for the honour we brought to Nigerians.

“We’re already boldened to even bring more and bigger laurels to the country by the sheer reception accorded to us by Nigerians since our arrival from Namibia,” said the Rivers Angels winger to supersport.com.

Falcons’ victory at the AWC in Namibia has automatically qualified the seven-time African champions for the forthcoming Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada together with runners-up, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon and third place match winners, “Les Elephantes’ of Ivory Coast.

The AWC winners are already in Abuja ahead of today’s grand reception by the president.
