–Following Eagles star’s first UCL goal for Chelsea
Mikel Obi has been at Chelsea for eight and a half years and he’s not exactly earned himself the reputation as a goal machine.
On Wednesday night he scored his first ever goal in the Champions League and Twitter reacted in style. So much so ‘Mikel’ was number six trend in the world at one point!
“John Obi Mikel – he scores when he wants,”tweeted Dan Levene.
Levene also tweeted about the number of goals the Nigerian has scored for Chelsea, emphasising that the five goals have come in eight and a half years.
“John Mikel Obi: five goals in eight and a half years at Chelsea. #goalmachine,” he tweeted via @BluesChronicle.
‘You know you’re in an easy group when John Obi Mikel scores,’ he also tweeted @GaryLineker.
Lineker’s tweet was retweeted over 3,000 times and favourited over 2,500 times.
Another mocking tweet highlighted how poor Mikel has been in front of goal. ‘Mikel Obi is now just 74 goals away From Equaling Lionel Messi’s UCL Record,’tweeted RankyLicious (@patoranky) who jokingly referred to Mikel as a #GoalMachine.
Meanwhile Mikel is set to retain his starting place tomorrow when Chelsea entertain Hull City in an English Premier League game.
The Nigerian made his first EPL sart of the season for the Blues in their 2-1 loss to Newcastle at Saint James’ Park due to the absence of Nemanja Matic.
With Matic returning from his one game ban,Mikel still looks likely to get Jose Morinho’s nod as the replacement for former Arsenal captain,Cesc Fabregas who will be missing due to a one match ban.
