The NFF Federation Cup title holders, FC Ifeanyiubah on Sunday won the Anambra State FA Cup the third time on the bounce, and earned the right to keep the silver plated trophy for keeps, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Subsitute striker, Ifeanyi Onuigbo scored late as the Anambra Warriors overcame their more impressive Feeder Team to annex the trophy.
The Nigeria Professional Football League side had to ward off stiff challenge from their enterprising youth side who showed tremendous grit and guile in the grand finale decided at the Neros Stadium Nanka, Anambra State.
FC Ifeanyiubah went home with the trophy and star price of N2m while the runners-up, FC Ifeanyiubah Feeders were rewarded with a sum of N1m.
Ihiala United who emerged third best side went home with N500, 000.00. Sunday's final was made more unique given the fact it marked the 10th year anniversary of the sponsorship of the annual competition by Neros Pharmaceutical Company Limited.
The CEO of Neros Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Chief Paully Emenike (Odenigbo Nanka), was delighted with the performance of the two finalists and hoped they would represent the state well at the National Federation Cup.
"FC Ifeanyiubah won today, and will have the singular honour of representing the state at the national level where they are the defending champions," Chief Emenike said.
"It is my conviction that given their performance today, they can retain the National Federation Cup they first won last year.
"I'm happy with the performances of the two teams and sincerely believe they have all it takes to do the state proud at the national level.
"Bright Onyekachi, matchday captain of new Anambra champions FC Ifeanyiubah commeded his teammates for a good fight.
"I'm happy to be a proud winner of the Anambra FA Cup today as captain, but all credits go to my teammates for their commitment and determination to win," Onyekachi, a product of Buruj Football Academy, Lagos, said.
Coach Yaw Preko was delighted to have won his first Anambra State FA Cup. He said the youth side gave his boys a real tough time. "They know us, but we don't really know them much.
"They were out to prove a point, but I'm happy we won at the end of the day," Preko said.
