Nigeria Premier Basketball League champions, Kano Pillars have recorded their first victory at the ongoing 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup for men in Tunisia, defeating ASB New Generation of Democratic Republic of Congo 83-66 points Wednesday night, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Coach Sani Ahmed led team got their strategy right in the first quarter to win 16-15 points while the Congolese fought back in the second quarter to win 15-14 to end the first half with 30-30 points.
On resumption for the second half, the Nigerians who had suffered two defeats so far in the club Championship, returned to the court fighting harder, and it paid off as they won the third quarter with 28-22 points and that result brought out the best in the Nigerians to push further for a better performance in the last quarter.
The final quarter was clearly in favour of Kano Pillars who defeated the Eastern Africans with 25-14 points to end the match on 83-66 points.
With the Wednesday’s result, Kano Pillars now have 4 points despite the two defeat suffered earlier on.
Abubakar Usman contributed 18 points in the victory while Dele Ademola added 9 rebounds. Azuoma Dike also provided 5 assists in the game.
Meanwhile, Kano Pillars will face Etoile Sportive Rades of Tunisia in their next game on Friday while another Nigeria representatives in the competition, Gombe Bulls will play Sports Libolo of Angola same day.
