FIFA, Barca, United, Other Clubs, Stars Mourn Astori’s Death; Serie A Games Cancelled

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, top European clubs and players have expressed their condolences following the shocking death of Fiorentina captain and Italian footballer Davide Astori on Sunday.

Astori’s death was announced by Fiorentina on Sunday.

Italian defender Astori, 31,was found dead at the La di Moret Hotel ahead of Fiorentina’s Serie A clash with Udinese on Sunday.

The clash at the Stadio Friuli and all Serie A matches billed for Sunday have subsequently been cancelled by the Italian FA.

Reacting to Astori’s death, FIFA wrote on their verified Twitter: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Davide Astori who has passed away at the age of 31.”

Manchester United expressed their sadness over Astori’s by writing on Twitter: “The thoughts of everyone at Manchester United are with the family, friends and colleagues of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori following his tragic passing.”

Tottenham stated: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing all too early of Davide Astori. The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with his friends and family at this extremely difficult time.”

Serie A club Torino wrote: “RIP, Davide Astori. There are no words for the pain that has affected us all.”

Chelsea, who have an Italian manager, stated: “Everybody at Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened at the sudden death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and team-mates at this time.”

Barcelona joined in the mourning, writing: “Barcelona expresses all its condolences for the unexpected loss of your captain, Davide Astori. We are close to Fiorentina, friends and the whole family of Davide. May you rest in peace.”

“The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with the family of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori following the very sad news of his death,” Everton wrote.

Malaga of LaLiga tweeted: “We express our deepest condolences to the Fiorentina family for the terrible loss of their captain, Davide Astori.”

Belgian giants Anderlecht added: “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Davide Astori and the whole Fiorentina family, after their captain passed away last night. RIP.”

Las Palmas, the new club of Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, wrote: “Las Palmas express their condolences to the family, friends and Fiorentina over the death of Davide Astori.”

Liverpool added their voice, stating: “We’re saddened by the passing of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori. Our condolences are with his friends and family. RIP Davide.”

Watford stated: “Everyone at Watford is saddened by the passing of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori. Our condolences are with his friends and family.”

And for renowned footballers, Spanish and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas said: “Rest in peace, Davide.”

David Silva added: “My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Davide Astori.”
