FIFA, Canada Mark 100 Days To Women’s World Cup

–Falcons Intensify Preparations In Abuja

The Federation of International Football (FIFA) and host country, Canada, on Friday February 27th, marked 100 days to the 7th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals and the Organizing Committee have put in place various programmes to celebrate the milestone.

In video interviews, FIFA Executive Committee Members Lydia Nsekera, Sonia Bien Aime and Moya Dodd (all women) and former Germany great Steffi Jones (who was chief organizer of the 6th FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011) shared their expectations of the flagship women’s tournament.

Chairman of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 Organizing Committee, Victor Montagliani, has also spoken eloquently about Canada’s preparations and what will make this year’s tournament very special.

In Canada, the six host cities (Vancouver, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Ottawa, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec and; Moncton, New Brunswick) will unveil scarves featuring the slogan ‘To a Greater Goal’ to kick off a scarf campaign that will continue through the tournament.

Thenff.com states that the Super Falcons of Nigeria, champions of Africa, is one of the 24 teams that will participate at the finals and the squad is already in camp in Abuja with top notch preparations taking shape with the arrival of more invited foreign-based players.

Qualifying fixtures for the All-Africa Games and the 2016 Olympic Games will ginger the Falcons before a final camping in Canada that will see them play friendly games against some of the participating nations.

Nigeria play in Group D alongside USA, Sweden and Australia with her first two matches in Winnipeg before a third against the Americans in Vancouver.

Host Canada, China, New Zealand and Netherlands are in Group A while Group B has Norway, Thailand, Germany and Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon, Ecuador, Japan and Switzerland are in Group C.

Spain, Costa Rica, Brazil and Korea Republic are in Group E while Group F has France, Colombia, England and Mexico.
