Nigeria’s Under-20 team, the Flying Eagles, presently in camp screening players ahead of next year’s Africa Youth Championship beat grassroots side Standard of Zaria 11-0 in a friendly game on Saturday.
In a game played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, the Nigeria U20s wasted no time in running into a four-goal lead before half time and it could have been more.
Sunshine Stars’ forward Musa Newman and Saddam Auta both scored a brace in the first half with simple tap-ins, after nice work from the team’s full-backs in Musa Mohammed and Mustapha Ibrahim.
Auta improved on his first half tally by scoring two more goals in the second half to take his account in the game to four, while putting his team in 6-0 up.
Standard of Zaria were no match for the Flying Eagles with FC Porto youngster Jacob Njoku scoring a hat-trick upon his introduction, while fellow substitute Samuel Mathias also added a brace.
The result has now taken Manu Garba’s team’s winning run in Kaduna to two victories in two games, scoring 14 goals and conceding just one.
They will continue with the test games on Wednesday with a clash against Ace Academy.
The team will campaign in the African U-20 Youth Championship in Senegal next year.
