Nigeria 1-1 Sweden (China 2007: Group B)

Super Falcons’ first opponents at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup were Sweden.

The opening Group B match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The goals of the game came from Sweden captain Victoria Svensson in the 50th minute and Falcons striker Cynthia Uwak in the 82nd minute.

Both teams were knocked out of the tournament in the group stage while USA and North Korea advanced to the knockout rounds from the group.

Nigeria 0-1 Germany (Beijing 2008 Olympics: Group F)

Nigeria lost 1-0 to Germany in their second Group F game of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

The Super Falcons could not bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to North Korea in the first game of the competition.

Kerstin Stegemann gave Germany the winning goal in the 65th minute as they progressed to the knockout rounds of the tournament alongside Brazil, while the Falcons headed home.

Nigeria 0-1 France (Germany 2011: Group A)

At the 2011 FIFA Women’ World Cup, Nigeria once again opened their campaign with a European team in the group stage, this time against France.

The Super Falcons lost 1-0 to France in their first group stage game with the winning goal coming from Marie-Laure Delie in the 56th minute.

Nigeria 0-1 Germany (Germany 2011: Group A)

Nigeria met FIFA Women’s World Cup hosts Germany in their second Group A game and the Falcons succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Simone Laudehr scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute as Germany went through to the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Nigeria and Canada both crashed out while France also advanced from the group.

Nigeria 3-3 Sweden (Canada 2015: Group D)

Nigeria’s last encounter with a European team was against Sweden at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.

The group match ended in a 3 -3 draw.

The Swedes were handed the lead with an own goal in the 21st minute by Desire Oparanozie before Nilla Fischer doubled their advantage in the 31st minute.

Falcons’ Ngozi Okobi reduced the deficit for the African champions in the 50th minute before Asisat Oshoala equalized for the Falcons in the 53rd minute.

Linda Sembrant handed the Swedes the lead again in the 60th minute before Francisca Ordega scored the last goal of the game in the 87th minute.
