Friendlies: England Recall Wilshere, Drop Smalling, Cahill; France Invite Pogba, Martial, Sevilla’s Ben Yedder

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been recalled to the England team while Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and Chelsea captain Gary Cahill have been dropped ahead of the Three Lions’ friendlies against Italy and Holland this month.
England boss Gareth Southgate announced the 27-man squad at St George’s Park on Thursday.
Understandably, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was left out due to an injury.
Smalling, Cahill and Everton centre-back Michael Keane have all been left out of the squad.
Wilshere is making a return to the side after last playing for the Three Lions in their 2-1 shock defeat to Iceland at the 2016 European Championship in France.
Also, Southgate included four uncapped players to the squad in Burnley duo keeper Nick Pope and defender Jamie Tarkowski, who was also a target of Poland, Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson and Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook
England, who will also play Nigeria in another friendly in June, are in Group G at this year’s World Cup and will face Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.
Also, France coach Didier Deschamps announced his 24-man squad for their warm-up games against Colombia and Russia this month.
Two-goal hero against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League Wissam Ben Yedder of Sevilla was invited for the first time.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was once again left out of the squad for the friendlies.
Other notable absences are Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette, Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy and Chelsea’s Tiémoué Bakayoko, all of whom are out injured.
However, Manchester United pair Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, Chelsea pair N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud, Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe are all included.

Sloppy Tammy Abraham were r u?

    • Oh my God!! Am laughing my sorrows out o..looooolllzzzzz. Do you just say Tammy’s got 4 GOALS IN 24 LEAGUE GAMES..LOL. Then why the hype about him then. He’s there eyeing a world cup spot with England

Tammy’s shirt is automatic guys don’t laugh at him now! The writer actually meant 40 GOALS IN 24 LEAGUE GAMES and not 4 GOALS, that’s just a sleep of tongue. Southgate wants to give some other fringe players the opportunities to prove themselves, that’s why Uncle Tammy the ‘BIG BOSS’ was left out along with Harry Kane. Ha!!!Ha!! Ha!

  • That was how Tammy Abraham was dumped. We don’t need him either… 4 goals in 24 matches? What’s that? LOL!!!

Tammy is a disappointment to his soul. Despite the fact that Harry Kane is injured, yet he was shamefully neglected. Nigerians’ turn to mock him, I laugh

Tammy Abrahmitake sorry Man, goodbye to world cup

Tammy Abraham will certainly miss the party in Russia 2018 world-cup because he is now considerd not good enough to be involved with the England Senior National team rather, he will be with the U/21 squard,,,,,, he had it on a plater of gold to be @ the world cup with Nigeria which he turned down after initially agreeing to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria,,,,,,,, Tammy may not even have a bright International career again because those who ridiculed Nigeria befor the press in the past never made it good again.

I never really liked Abraham’s style of play until the hype came by the English media after one season wonder with Bristo-City and has now become the shadow of his former self,,,,,,,,i had always rated players like Samuel Kalu of Gent,,,,, Dennis Bonnaventure of Clubrugge and Henry Onyekuru of Anderletch ahead of Tammy.

  • I’m not the kind that gloats at someone’s misfortune, but Tammy tested Nigerians to the last limit. After rejecting to represent Nigeria, he lost no sleep in exploiting the rejection and transforming himself into a media superstar overnight. He granted interviews, he appeared in talk-shows to denigrate his roots. Habbaaaah. Just to present a false image of a footballer at the peak of his performance to the English FA. What has come of this? Unequivocal rejection by the English FA … and a loud rejection by the SE coaches – 180m of them. I go laff oooh!

The truth is that Tammy Abraham is not even better than Umar Sadiq(Roma/NAC Breda), Taiwo Awoniyi(Liverpool/Mouscron), Bonaventure(Club Brugge), Henry Onyekuru(Everton/Anderlect) just to mention a few who are his age mates and and are performing better than him in their various clubs yet could not make the Super eagles squad. Tammy only used Nigeria to get attention which resulted to his first call up. Now that he has to stand alone and stake for a place in England’s squad based on performance, he is nowhere to be found. I wish you luck Tammy but be rest assured that Nigeria will NEVER miss you.

4 goals in 24 matches?…..That must be a defender’s stats. If I hear anybody recommend that guy again for Super Eagles…….I will commit my first murder

even our own Joel Obi who is a defensive midfielder has 5 goals in 22 games

  • Adisa Michael 8 months ago

Funny enough, If Tammy had payed allegiance to Nigeria, people would have said that he was dropped to the bench because of his action. Karma is a bitch. He is no longer good for even friendly match for England despite the main striker injured. Even Welbeck has better chance than him

Yep you’re right! My message was deleted too.

Why are people still worried about this Tammy Abraham? Nigerians writing in this column are going about the whole thing as if he is comparable to Lionel Messi. The boy has not committed a crime against Nigeria, and we should leave him alone.

  • to be frank, in as much i will not wish anybody bad because of his/her action or inaction. in the case of Tammy Abraham am indifference, if he like he should have a great career if he like he should not, for all i care, am not saying this because he opt to represent England at the expense of Nigeria but the way he portrayed himself as though Nigeria is the worse country one can ever play for, there are several players of nigeria descent that are representing another country that i love to see playing especially with their club sides players like Alaba, Ross backlay, Dele Alli to mention but a few, because they have in one time or the other in their career shown interest in representing Nigeria, despite the fact that some of those players menton above are fair in complexion it doesnot go into their head,

to think that if a player like iwobi opted to play for england, with hus current critiscm bt d fans, he would ve been demoted as well but he is still on his way to d world cup as d face of the best team parading d youngest pros in russia coming from Africa….am sure he counts himself lucky and blesses d day he made dat decision
