Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has warned teen star Jordon Ibe not to follow in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling by making moves to leave the club.
Sterling’s future has been the subject of intense speculation, following his decision to quit Anfield in search of silverware and Gerrard has not been impressed with the 21-year-old winger.
But the America-bound Gerrard hopes the inspirational Liverpool careers of Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen can be a legacy for Ibe to emulate at Anfield should he stay.
Ibe, who has Nigerian blood and could play for the Super Eagles if he chooses to, is also involved in contract negotiations with Liverpool but is expected to extend his stay at the club in the coming weeks.
“In Jordon Ibe now, there is huge potential there with the right coaching and advice. If he wants it, there could be another superstar around the corner,” Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo.
