By Johnny Edward: Nigeria’s Stephen Mozia has qualified for the men’s discus throw final at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Mozia, recorded a season best throw of 59.95m to place fourth in the qualifying round -group B after two successful attempts on Thursday.
In his first throw, Mozia recorded a distance of 56.27m.
Traves Smikle from Jamaica came first in the group with a throw of 64.69m while Matty Derry from Australia finished in second position with a throw of 64.69m.
Apostolos Parellis from Cyprus came third with a throw of 61.45m.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Praise Idamadudu and Isoken Igbinosun both failed to qualify for the final of the women’s 200m on Thursday.

Both athletes finished seventh in their respective semi-finals races.
Idamadudu, competing in semi-final 2, finished with a time of 23.69 seconds.
Bahrain’s Shaunae Miller Uibo and Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson both qualified from the women’s 200m semi-finals 2 in 22.48 and 22.95 seconds respectively.
Igbinosun, who competed in the women’s 200m semi-final 3, recorded a time of 24.03 seconds to place seventh.
The trio of Crystal Emmanuel from Canada, Shashalee Forbes from Jamaica and Finette Agyapong from England all qualified for the final from the 200m semi-final 3.
Emmanuel recorded a time of 22.87 while Forbes and Agyapong finished with a time of 22.93 and 23.38 seconds respectively.
