Gold Coast 2018: Nigerian Wrestlers Claim One Silver, Two Bronze

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria’s Blessing Onyebuchi lost to Erica Wiebe from Canada in the gold medal match in the women’s freestyle (76kg) wrestling event at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Onyebuchi missed the chance to win the country’s fifth gold medal at this year’s games after losing to Wiebe via a verdict of victory by fall.

In the men’s vreestyle (57kg), Ebikewenimo Welson clinched Nigeria’s first bronze medal following his win against South Africa’s Jan Combrinck.

Welson, who lost to Canada’s Steven Takahashi in the semi-final, defeated Combrinck via points decision.

Nigeria won another bronze medal, this time in the women’s Freestyle (53kg) through Bose Samuel.

Samuel defeated India’s Deepika Dilhani via victory by fall decision to claim the bronze.

However, Ebimienfaghe Assizecourt could not emulate Welson and Samuel’s bronze winning feat as he lost to Wales’ Curtis Dodge.

Dodge won the bronze medal after securing a victory by fall verdict.

Following the one silver and two bronze medals won in wrestling, Nigeria now has four gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
