Guardiola Eager To Learn From Chelsea Rival Sarri, Indifferent About Snub By Jorginho

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is excited with the prospect of learning from Chelsea’s new head coach Maurizio Sarri this season.

Sarri succeeded Antonio Conte few weeks ago after the latter fell out of favour with the club’s hierarchy last season.

The former Napoli boss has an opportunity to win his first silverware as Blues boss in Sunday’s Community Shield against City.

Guardiola praised Sarri last season when Man City met Napoli in the group stages of the Champions League and has now backed the 59-year-old to revolutionise the English game, stating that he will from the Italian’s methods.

“First of all I’m happy that a manager of that level is in the Premier League. I’m going to learn a lot to see him every weekend,” Guardiola stated during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s traditional curtain-raiser at the Wembley Stadium.

“We are going to improve a lot because of his ideas here in England. I saw three games [of Chelsea] in pre-season and he got it. He did it – the team in a short time plays like he wants.

“Of course, he needs more time to work everything but the ideas are already there, so I think it’ll be a good game [ on Sunday]. Chelsea is always a big rival, with Antonio Conte before and with Maurizio too.

“The way he plays, I think will be perfect for English football. I’m so happy he came here.”

One man Guardiola and his charges will be up against on Sunday is Italian midfielder, Jorginho who shunned the Citizens to link up with the Blues.

Guardiola he says he is not bitter because he only wants players who are committed to his project.

“Yes, we were close but in the end Jorginho decided to stay with Sarri,“ he said.

“I want players who want to come here. He didn’t want that. Maybe it was a bit late to announce that but if you don’t want to come, don’t come.

“The blow would be to come here when he prefers Chelsea. Nobody put it in his head to come. We were so close, we believed it was done, but at the last turn he decided on Chelsea, like Alexis [Sanchez] with United.”
