Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that the quartet of John Stones, David Silva, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane are not close to a return to first team action.
Premier League leaders City have been struggling with injuries to key players.
The unavailability of these key players has seen them struggle lately.
Just last weekend, they managed a 1-1 league draw against Burnley at Turf Moor after a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool. However, they are still 13 points clear at the top of the table.
And when asked the possibility of some of his injured stars making a return, Guardiola replied: “Silva no, Stones no, Gabriel no, Sane no.”
Guardiola was speaking at Friday’s press conference ahead of City’s EPL home clash against Leicester City on Saturday.
Guardiola highlighted the importance of giving his players a break following a hectic schedule of games.
“We had a lot of games since August and just one midweek off, we needed (a rest). We made three good training sessions and then we come back. We love to play football but when you play every three days, sometimes a break is good for everybody,” he said.
“We have tomorrow, three days later Champions League, then five days, and then five days for the League Cup Final. We will see day by day how the players feel. Some players are not fit. Others will come back.”
He went on to state why he is currently relying heavily on Sergio Aguero.
“I would like to rest Aguero but he’s the only striker we have. He is making a huge effort and doing really well. But Gabriel is coming back soon – maybe 10 days, two weeks,” the former Barcelona boss explained.
“Sane is much better but I don’t think he will be back for the Champions League. He’s just running in training.”
