Haas Chief Not In Favour Of Third Car Idea

Haas team principal Gunther Steiner has dismissed the idea of teams running a third car saying it “could confuse the whole picture”. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff hinted earlier this year that he would like to see teams in F1 run a third car in order to give younger drivers the chance to progress and compete with the best.

Race director Charlie Whiting has played down the chances of it ever happening, though, and Haas supremo Steiner appears to be completely against the idea.

“I’m not in agreement with a third car because it could confuse the whole picture,” he said on Autosport.

“It would be very difficult to understand for the fans and new spectators that sometimes a third car could run.

“It would distort the actual championship, in my opinion. I think we need to sit back and come up with a better idea.”

Haas, who are fifth in the Contructors Standings this season, currently operate with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen as their two drivers in F1 and they have enjoyed a decent 2018 so far, with the Austrian Grand Prix in July the highlight when Grosjean finished fourth and Magnussen ended fifth.
