Higuian: Argentina Going To 2018 World Cup To Win It

Juventus striker, Gonzalo Higuian, has stated that Argentina are heading to the 2018 FIFA World Cup to win it.

Higuain is in Jorge Sampaoli’s Squad for Argentina’s two international friendlies against Italy and Spain.

The former Real Madrid and Napoli star scored and provided an assist for compatriot, Paulo Dybala, in Juve’s 2-1 comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur in the second-leg round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Speaking on his return to the squad after being left out of La Albiceleste’s  last few matches of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and friendlies which included the 4-2 loss to Nigeria, the 30-year-old expressed delight getting called back.

Higuain also explained the reasons the two friendlies against Spain and Italy is key to Argentina’s good outing at the 2018 World Cup.

“With humility, but we aspire to win everything, but first the two friendlies of this month and then to think about the World Cup. It’s time to be calm,” Higuain told Marca.

“Happy about it (his return). Two important matches, one of them against Spain, which will be a good opportunity to show the potential of Argentina facing the World Cup. I enjoy the national team and there are still important challenges.”

Argentina are in Group D at the 2018 World Cup where they will face Nigeria, Croatia and debutant Iceland.

La Albiceleste will open their campaign on June 16 against Iceland before taking on Croatia and Nigeria on June 21 and 26 respectively.

Talk is cheap. It cost nothing to talk, but eating ones own words is demeaning & humiliating.
LA Albiceleste Star, Gonzalo Higuian is sticking out his tongue again to claim the coveted Cup still months away to its kick off. He is not alone in such trade. Argentine players are known to be boastful & arrogant when discussing their chances before a major tournament.
Football is an out field duel for eleven players on either side, & it is played with the legs, not with the mouth. These Argentines don’t learn.
Nigeria, in the past were like that too, we played our matches on the pages of newspapers before we learnt our lessons the hard way.
Brazil, it was, that taught us a bitter soccer lesson at the Fifa U-20 event in Chile ’87.
    Today, we are better off.
Argentina would still need to learn one or two lessons about respecting their opponents.
Fifa WC 2018 fiesta might just be the stage for that.
I will be absolutely delighted to see Higuian & his co travellers at the WC eat their humble pie served hot by Nigeria.
Super Eagles will be ready. Coach Gernot Rohr is the tactician to map out the exit route of the LA Albiceleste team.
They will be in shock of an early exit to pay the price of pride.
Argentina is composed of old players, average age 29, playing week in, week out in top European teams especially. This is demanding.. and telling.
The core of this team, built around magic man, Messy has been together for over 6 years.
This team is deluded, living in past glory, and under the insane illusion as uncrowned King of Russia 2018.
They have bad news from Nigeria. We will whip them again.

  • How can Argentina win the World Cup when Nigeria is in the same tournament with them???
