By Adeboye Amosu in Kano: Home-based Super Eagles forward Anthony Okpotu hopes the side can build on their impressive showing at the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament and have a successful campaign at the African Nations Championship in Morocco, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The home Eagles beat MFM FC 3-2 in the final of the NPFL invitational Tournament on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The home-based Super Eagles ended the competition with two wins and a draw from three games.
The West Africans who will be making their third appearance at the CHAN in Morocco are yet to win the competition and Okpotu who netted a brace in the win against MFM insisted they can claim the big prize this time around.
“It’s no doubt a morale boosting win for us. The CHAN is few weeks away and when you do well in a competition like this, it will surely have a positive effect on the team,” the Lobi Stars striker told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“We have not won the CHAN before, and it will be great to win it in Morocco. Now, we have to step up our preparation and keep working hard.
“We know it’s going to be tough out there in Morocco, but we will equally be up to the task.”
The home Eagles are drawn in Group C along with Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.
The competition starts in Morocco on January 13 and will end February 4.
