Home-based Super Eagles striker Sunday Faleye is delighted to bring joy to his mother and his entire family after scoring the winning goal on his debut – in the 1-0 win against Enyimba on Friday, a Group A match at the ongoing NPFL Invitational tournament, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Faleye volleyed home in the 56th from a delightful long ball from Ifeanyi Nweke to seal the win and ensured Salisu Yusuf’s team progressed to Sunday’s final against MFM FC.
The player who is a product of Lagos- based Nationwide League team Freestan FC told Completesportsnigeria.com after the encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium that he was happy to make his mother proud following his decisive strike.
“It’s a great feeling to score in my first game for the team. I made a promise to my mum who requested before the game that I score a goal for her and I’m happy I was able to fulfil it,” Faleye revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
“I can imagine she is extremely happy now, and my other family members too.
“I was a bit nervous before and at the start of the game but after a while I settled down into the game and my performance improved as well.”
The young forward who played on loan at relegated Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan last season also vowed to continue to work hard to ensure he picks a spot in the final squad that will play at the African Nations Championship in Morocco early next year.
“I don’t think am there yet as I still need to work harder to make the final list for the CHAN,” Faleye added.
“We have 30 players in the team fighting really hard to be in Morocco, so that tells me that I need to do more in training and other subsequent games.”
He also praised his older colleagues for helping him settle down into the team.
“My older teammates have been helpful to me. They have been accomodating and that has helped me in settling down well too.”
