Home Eagles Star Ojo: We Did Our Best In Morocco

By Adeboye Amosu: Home-based Super Eagles midfielder Dayo Ojo feels the team gave their all in the final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Morocco and were disappointed to end the competition on a sour note, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Super Eagles went down to a 4-0 defeat against the Atlas Lions in final on Sunday in Casablanca.

It was Nigeria’s best placing in the history of the competition after coming third at the 2014 edition in South Africa.

But despite the team surpassing pre-tournament expectations by going as far as the final, Ojo insisted that they were disappointed they didn’t come back home with the trophy.

“I must confess we did our best in Morocco especially in the final but things didn’t work out according to plan,” he told CSN.

“We were desperate to win the title for the first time and gave our best all through.

“The red card also made things difficult for us in the final as well as the weather.

“But we can be proud of our achievement in the competition as nobody gave us a chance to make it to the final.”

  • You are right @Ojo. Nobody goes to the battle field with purpose of losing the battle. This applies to football too. If it is possible to win all matches, the lame will place Barcelona. If it is possible to foresee the future, the unexpected will be minimal or zero altogether. You represented Nigerians and Nigeria well. There are few who are still ‘vexing’ with you, but the majority appreciate you. Even those who are still ‘vexing’ will soon seen the marvelous achievement and fall in line to be appreciators. The criticism will high and it will include me, your so-call self-appointed “PRO” and no1 defender, if the next CHAN team does equal or beat this 2nd place. I sorry for that team then. Well done and enjoy the moment with your family and friends.
