Austin Obaroakpo hopes to justify huge expectations on him by becoming a constant feature in the Super Eagles in years to come reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Abia Warriors captain has hugged the headlines in recent months as a result of his superlative displays at both domestic and international level.
The tough tackling defender who has been likened to former Super Eagles defender, Uche Okechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com even though he has enjoyed all the accolades, he still believes he needs to work harder to cement a starting berth in the side.
"It always great you are compared to a great centre back like Uche Okechukwu who is considered as one the best defenders the country as ever had,"he disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.
"I just hope to keep improving my game and become a regular player in the Super Eagles.
"I'm not there yet as I still need to learn one or two things. Hopefully, I will be able to prove people who have said a lot of positive things about me right.
"I have seen a lot of players failed after starting their career on a positive and I don't want my case to be like that."
Obaroakpo made his debut for the main Super Eagles side in a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland earlier this month.
The centre back is a key member of the home-based Super Eagles side that will challenge for the title at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda next January.
