Hughes Hails Moses’ Resurgent Form For Stoke

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says Victor Moses is starting to get back to his best since arriving from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

Moses who signed for the Staffordshire outfit on a season-long deal last month, had a frustrating stint in the recent years as a bit-part player for Chelsea and then Liverpool on loan.

The Super Eagles star has rapidly emerged as a key man for Stoke, though, and his threat was particularly evident as he helped them to Monday’s 1-0 Barclays Premier League win over Newcastle, in which they registered their first home win of the season.

The 23-year-old Nigeria international provided the cross from which Peter Crouch headed in the 15th-minute winner, and caused constant problems for the visitors.

Hughes, whose side moved up from 17th to 11th in the table with the victory, said of Moses:

“He’s been exceptional since he came to the club. “We are really delighted with what he has produced. He is a man on a mission I would suggest, because he hasn’t had a lot of football in the last two years or so.

“Victor just wants to play, and every time he gets into those positions, in the wide areas, you always sense something is going to happen. “It was the same again (against Newcastle). We are delighted for him, and I think if he continues in the same vein, then he’ll have a good season and so will we.”

Moses was substituted in the 71st minute of the game with a niggling injury but Eagles coach Stephen Keshi will be hoping that the knock is not one that will keep the pacy forward out of the crucial 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

Peter Crouch who is the beneficiary of Moses’ wonderful form said to the club’s website, Stokecityfc.com:

“Victor’s been our main threat so far this year, and he’s going to get quality balls into the box. It was a great delivery and I’m pleased with the goal.”

Moses is with the Potters on a season-long loan from Chelsea and has impressed in his four Premier League games.

“We’re delighted with this three points,” said the Nigeria winger, who had a good shout for a penalty turned down when bundled over in the box by Yoan Gouffran in the first half.

“It was a crucial game for us and the big man here got the goal, so we’re very pleased Moses stated. appearances to date this season, after struggling to get games in a similar spell at Liverpool last term.
