Hungarian League: Nwobodo Ends Season With Goal, Set For Europa League Challenge With Ujpest

Former Rangers International of Enugu star, Obinna Nwobodo, put the lid on an impressive debut season in Europe by scoring the second goal in Ujpest’s 2-1 win over Debrecen last Saturday as the Hungarian top division league came to an end, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

This was 10 days after he helped the team clinch the Hungarian Cup following a penalty shootout victory over Puskas Academy at the end of a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

And only a couple of days after bringing down the curtain on the 2017/2018 campaign with the latest win, the ebullient midfielder is already focusing on achieving bigger feats next season.

“Last season is gone and I’m already looking ahead to next season,” Nwobodo told CompleteSportsNigeria.

“I’m happy with what I achieved in my first season in European football, both on a personal note and collectively with the club.

“I was able to get into the team from the very beginning of the season and missed only three, four matches all through and was also able to play an important role in helping the team win the Cup, which is their first silverware in about four years.

“However, next season is going to be tougher because we are going to be playing in three major competitions having qualified for the Europa League.

“Its going to be more stressful as there will be more matches and there will be shorter intervals between games which means less time to recover. Some games will be after trips of three, four hours. So, it’s going to be a very demanding season both physically and mentally. We just have to be stronger.”

And to prepare for the task ahead, the former Nigeria U-20 international is forfeiting his holidays in Nigeria.

“We have been given a break for 12 days, but I’ve told the club that I will rather stay here in Budapest.

“I think it is too short a period, and so I will rather rest for few days here while tuning up physically by going to the Gym until the team resumes.”

Talented player. I think if he plays two more season in Újpest then he can join a bigger club. Last year we sold a macedonian player Bardhi to a spanish club, and he scored 9 goals in his first year. Nwobodo has the same potential. Best regards from Hungary
