Iceland Coach: Nigeria Game Is Like World Cup Final But We Can Beat Them

By Adeboye Amosu:

Iceland assistant coach Helgi Kolviðsson says the game against Nigeria will be difficult but that his team is capable of securing a win against the Super Eagles in Friday’s Group D fixture at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

The debutants held two-time winners Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their first game on Saturday at the Spartak Stadium.

They will be up against the Super Eagles on Friday at the Volgograd Arena in their second ever game in the competition.

“We can win everyone. It’s just that way. We always believe in ourselves no matter who the opponent is. We are not going to underestimate Nigeria,” Kolviðsson stated in an interview with Visir.is.

“We know their team is extremely strong. They will also want to win as well so it will be a tricky game. It will be like a  World Cup final.”

Iceland got a first hand of what to expect against the Super Eagles in their 2-2 draw against Ghana prior to the  competition.

“In the friendly game against Ghana we saw a lot of things similar to Nigeria. What we know is that the players are extremely quick and good at counter attacks,” he added.

” It could therefore be much more dangerous if we lose the ball against them. The types of players, they go a lot on one on one and sometimes its hard to figure them out.”

I believe you coach you really know your assignment

  • NIG VS ICELAND PREVIEW

The dust is slowly settling, the match against Croatia has deflated morale amongst us fans but are things really that bad?

Are there any positives to be drawn from the 2:0
loss against Croatia? Let me try.

Before I proceed, let me confess that, in the heat of the moment, I sharply criticised the team immediately after the match.

    __POSITIVES__

    1) Super Eagles remain a resolute side: the fact that the 2 goals conceded came out of set-pieces only mean that the Eagles are still hard to break down in open play.
    2) Players still have potentials: Mikel and Ighalo a still good players but their bests will only come out if played to their strengths in their natural positions.
The group is still wide open: A win or draw for Nigeria on Friday following a draw between Croatia and Argentina on Thursday means all will be decided on the last round of games.
    3) Improving players: Uzoho, Iheanacho, Musa, and Etebo have improved a lot! Use them in their right positions and you will get results.
    4) No injury worries: presently (to the best of my knowledge) there are no injury worries in the camp after the Croatia match.
    5) We are not alone: fans of Germany, Brazil and even Argentina are as unhappy as us at this time.

My prognosis : I am still not happy but one thing I know for sure, this Eagles will not go out without a fight!

    • Spoken my words. We come out best with our back against d wall. Support to Super eagles wt my last drop of blood.

That’s the spirit brother. Exactly my mind. Eagles though have their own fault were also UNLUCKY! BUT majority of our people often like writing off the Super Eagles so soon while calling for the heads of the coaches but the good news is that
we have seen the team rise to
the occasion many times after such castigation.  May history repeat itself!

  • respect @mr deo, for well articulated analysis this is where men are seperated from boys, when things is not going as espected, the real analyst will always draw positivity from whatever transpired in the field of play and recommend solution for way forward, not by calling the key actors names.

  • @deo spot on i dey always gbadun you at least let’s be hopeful not like those who like to blame. What can blame and condemnation after d deed is done is it not to look for way out.
