Iceland Coach Hallgrimsson Happy With Point Against Argentina

Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson is happy to see his side come out with a point in a Group D clash against Argentina in Moscow at the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday.

The tiny European nation who were playing in their first World Cup battled the two-time world champions to a 1-1 draw.

Argentina dominated possession in the game but were frustrated by their opponents who were resolute at the back.

“It was a great game, for us it was not the easiest match to debut in a World Cup, so a point against Argentina means something huge, one point is better than no point, ” he said during his post match conference.

” We  already knew how the game  was going to be played, that  they would have 60 percent of possession and we play as we know.

” We have to give the team all the credit, because it’s not easy to defend against Argentina for 90 minutes. “

Hallgrimsson defended his team’s approach to the game and claimed they can’t stop the Argentines with an attacking play.

“Some of us know how we can win and against Argentina it’s a fact that their players have more technique, they play in better teams, if we go one against one we know who will win,” he stated.

“We had a clear approach and everyone understands how to play, everyone enjoys playing this way. We might have lost the game if we had played differently

“We did not want to give them time or space, we were lucky because they had opportunities, but created some chances too.  The  game could have gone either way.”

He however believes that Argentina have it takes to go far in the competition despite their not too impressive start.

“I firmly believe that they will go far in this tournament, that’s why this point is a success for us,” he added.

“If we celebrate the way we did with this result, imagine what the celebration would have look like if we had won.”
