Iceland Keeper Voted MOTM Vs Argentina, Reveals How He Saved Messi’s Penalty

Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson has been named man of the match for his outstanding performance in his side’s Russia 2018 World Cup 1-1 draw with Argentina on Saturday.
Halldorsson made several saves during the match and saved a penalty from Lionel Messi that would have given Argentina the lead.

The Randers FC of Denmark keeper, 34, who was the excellent last man in a very organised defence, gave an insight into his preparation for the penalty.

“It’s a dream come true for me to have saved that penalty, especially as it helped us gain a point that could be very important for us in trying to qualify from this group,” Halldorsson said in his post-match interview.
” I did a lot of homework, watching a lot of penalties from Messi. And I also looked back at some of the penalties I had faced and what he might be expecting from me. “I had a good feeling he would put it that way.”

Iceland’s next Group D  next match against Nigeria on 22 June.
