Iceland Stars Sigurdsson, Guðmundsson Doubtful For Super Eagles Clash

By Adeboye Amosu:

Iceland are sweating on the fitness of the duo of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jóhann Bergs Guðmundsson ahead of Friday’s Group D clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

Everton star, Sigurdsson,  who missed the latter part of the English Premier League season last term due to a knee  injury, according to reports in Icelandic media did not train with his teammates on Tuesday morning.

Instead, he was involved in a light exercise with physical trainer  Friðrik Ellert Jónsson.

Guðmundsson, who plays for English club, Burnely sustained a calf injury in the 1-1 draw against Argentina at the Spartak Moscow and remains a big doubt for the game.

Heimir Hallgrímsson’s men will hope to boost their chances of making it to the second round by claiming all three points against the Super Eagles following the 1-1 draw against two-time winners Argentina last week Saturday.

The Super Eagles lost 2-0 to Croatia in their first group game.

The game will be played at the Volgograd Arena at 4pm Nigerian time.
