Ideye, Anichebe Could Be Fit To Face Liverpool

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

West Bromwich Albion head coach Alan Irvine hopes to have both Super Eagles strikers Victor Anichebe and Brown Ideye fit for Saturday’s trip to Liverpool.

Both players missed Sunday’s 4-0 hammering of Burnley but, while Anichebe returned to training yesterday, Ideye is still nursing the ankle injury he picked up against Hull.

However, Irvine revealed his record signing’s condition is improving and the signs are with Saido Berahino in top form and Georgios Samaras also available, the Scot could have four strikers to choose from at Anfield.

“Victor was close to playing but I made a decision that he wasn’t fully fit and so we left him out (against Hull City),” Irvine said.

“We need players who are going to be able to play at their best level and from having a conversation with him it was clear he wasn’t going to be able to do that.

The manager however gives a positive update on the likely return of the ‘beast’ who is yet to play international football for Nigeria under coach Stephen Keshi who has named his squad for the double 2015 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.

“He trained today so hopefully there will be no problems as far as that’s concerned.

“He is still being monitored with this groin issue and we’ll see how he responds after training,” the manager told the club’s website.

Irvine further spoke about record signing, Brown Ideye, who as expected, missed of the Eagles team for the Sudan games due to his fitness.

“Brown didn’t train but he is making progress. I am hoping he has a shout for Liverpool.

“He has rocked his ankle but it isn’t too bad.”

Ideye arrived at the Hawthorns for a record £10m in the summer.
