Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has expressed gratitude to his teammates at Greek club, Olympiacos, the back room staff of the club and fans of the Greek Premier League for voting him as the Greek Super League Player of the Week.
Ideye on Friday wrote his appreciation on his Twitter and Instagram handles with a picture of him holding his prize.
“Thanks to everyone for voting me as the best player of week 7th of the GSL, I really appreciate the love, thanks to my team mates and all the back room staff members for all their support #olympiacos #thankful”.
Ideye scored 29.31 percent of the votes cast to beat seven other players to the coveted prize.
Anastasios Bakasetas (Panionios), Luka Milunoviä† (Platanias), Anthony Le Tallec (Atromitos) and Dušan Perniš (Iraklis 1908) complete the top five positions in that order.
Ideye who was in Nigeria’s squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations but subsequently was not a feature in the Eagles under former coach, Stephen Keshi, scooped the award after scoring a goal and notching an assist in The Reds 4-0 thrashing of AEK Athens on Saturday in the derby.
In recent matches, the 27-year-old has been back to his best after scoring in three consecutive games in all competitions.
The former Ocean Boys and FC Sochaux of France striker scored the only goal that gave Olympiakos victory in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Dynamo Zagreb of Croatia.
The result left Olympiakos level with Bayern Munich at the top of the group with six points from three games, after the German side suffered a 2-0 setback at Arsenal.
