Ighalo Confident Super Eagles Can Beat England’s Familiar Faces

By James Agberebi:

Changchun Yatai striker Odion Ighalo has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can defeat England in Saturday’s pre-World Cup friendly at Wembley Stadium.

The Super Eagles who are already in London for the high profile clash against England, continue their preparations ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

This is the third time the Eagles will face England with the Three Lions securing a win (1-0 in a friendly in 1994) and a draw (0-0 in the group stage at the 2002 World Cup).

Ighalo, who will be coming up against familiar faces due to his time at Watford, said he is excited about the game.

“I will be facing players who I played against when I played in the Premier League,” Ighalo said in a 44 seconds  video published on Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) verified Twitter handle.

“So it’s going to be a good and exciting one and I’m looking for forward to it.

“England have a good team, top players going to the World Cup. It’s going to be a difficult game but we want to win every game, do well and correct some mistakes. So like I said, it’s going to be a tough game but it’s possible we win.”

Apart from Ighalo, Super Eagles stars Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi have all played or are still playing in the English Premier League.

Yeah! that’s a high spirit in camp of S.E
on my opinion: I don’t see anything so great in England team. Eagles, always come close each time we play against them. This time is the moment to dismounting them @ there backyard.
I can’t wait to watch the game come Saturday… is gonna be man to man stuff and a lesson to those half Nigerians who are dreaming to play for 3 lions. Super Eagles all the way!!!

  • The formation that Gernot Rohr deploys on Saturday against England will go a long way in determining the outcome of the match.

Raheem Sterling is quoted as already indicating that the 3 Lions will treat the game as a competitive fixture. Indeed, a victory for them at home will boost morale going into the World Cup.

The likes of Ighalo, Moses, Musa, Mikel and Iwobi will not only be in familiar territory but also keen milk out a victory against opponents they may have played against at various club encounters.

    I will go for a 5-3-2 formation.

Ighalo will benefit from a close support striker in either Iheanacho or Iwobi.

Mikel will be the creative midfielder supported by V.Moses and Ndidi on either side.

The pace of Omeruo should complement Balogun and Ekong in centre defence whilst Idowu and Ebuehi will function as wing-backs.

Good luck to the Super Eagles…

good formation @deo. after the Argentina game which we won, I’ve been wondering why Rohr hasn’t returned to the same formation he used in that game. hmmm. it could just be his secret or lethal formation. #eaglesalltheway

  • Our dear Ighalo, I am glad you will find a stiff competition in Simmy. That is very good for the team. You’ve got to push harder not to be benched by that guy. If Simmy was that incredible playing on a rock at Portharcourt, I’m sure there is much more from where that brilliant performance came from.
