Odion Ighalo extended his goal drought in English Premier League to ten games on Saturday as his team, Watford lost by a lone goal to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The game also saw the return of Victor Anichebe who made his eighth start of the season for the Black Cats.
Patrick Van Aanholt scored the winner in the 56th minute to hand David Moyes' side their fourth win of the campaign. The win also sees the Black Cats move up to 18th in the table while Watford drop to 12th spot.
After a rather dull first ten minutes where no real chance was created by either team, Ighalo came close to scoring his second goal in the EPL in the 15th minute, but he could not tap in Jose Holebas low cross into the Sunderland goal area as it rolled across the face the Black Cats' goal for a corner.
Ighalo who last scored for the Hornets on match-day 3 against West Ham which Watford won 4-2, has made 14 appearances for Watford who suffered a fifth defeat in their last seven games in the EPL this term.
Adnan Januzaj and Jermaine Defoe all had chances to score but missed in the 34th and 41st minute respectively.
In the second half, Van Aanholt got on to the end of a pass meant for Jermain Defoe in the Watford box before firing a stunner five minutes after the restart.
Anichebe who missed the defeat at home to Chelsea mid-week also latched on to the ball missed by Jermain Defoe but his pile driver shot sailed wide in the 67th minute.
Ighalo had another chance in the 88th minute but Pickford in goal for Sunderland kept his effort out.
His compatriot, Isaac Success came on for his seventh substitute appearance for the Hornets when he came on for Juan Camilo Zuniga in the 56th minute as Walter Mazzari went in search of a goal.
At the BET365 Stadium, Ahmed Musa came on for Riyad Mahrez in the 80th minute as ten man Leicester City fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 away at Stoke City. It was their second point earned away from home this season.
It was Musa's 13th appearance this season.
Goals from Bojan Krkic, from the spot in the 39th minute and another from Joe Allen on the stroke of half time gave the Potters a two goal lead into the break.
Substitute Jose Leonardo Ulloa pulled a goal back when he headed in Demarai Gray's cross in the 72nd minute from the right flank.
Daniel Amartey headed effort in the 88th minute ensured the Foxes earned a share of the spoils.
Leicester are now 15th in the EPL table after 17 games chalking up 17 points.
